Science and technology

Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.

Technology

Computer Education Programs operate in the classrooms from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3. Programs aim at all students becoming competent in basic computer usage, developing keyboard skills and competency in accessing and using the Internet. This is acquired through exposure to a wide variety of educational software. Each classroom is provided with a computer, networked to the school system, enabling access by all students. Students have supervised / monitored access to the Internet in their classrooms and the computer laboratory.

Technology is a focus at New Lambton South Public with students using computers and other forms of digital technology across all Key Learning Areas. All classrooms have computers and Interactive Whiteboards. All students have access to our modern computer lab where children learn the fundamentals of integrating technology from Kindergarten. Educational opportunities are provided to maximise each child’s technology knowledge and competence as well as learning cyber safety rules and practices.
